A Texas jury has awarded $242 million to a Dallas family for damages after suing Toyota for their children injuries which they alleged to have been caused by defects in the front seats of their car.
Details of the Dallas, Texas lawsuit
According to multiple news outlets, the Dallas family involved in a rear-end car accident in September 2016, filed suit in Dallas, Texas with claims that the personal injuries sustained by their 3-year-old son, and their 5-year-old daughter were caused by defects in the front seats of their 2002 Lexus ES300. A statement released by the law firm representing the family noted that “…The automaker made a conscious decision to protect front-seat occupants from crash injuries like whiplash at the expense of rear-seat passengers.” A Dallas County jury determined that the seats were unreasonably dangerous and Toyota failed to warn of those dangers.
